Puppy Boy
June 11, 2004 - April 12, 2019
Amy and I were completely besotted with Angus, our West Highland Terrier (Westie). Angus died a few months before his 15th birthday.
He was a fifth-wedding-anniversary present. I told Amy that there was a "scrappy looking Westie" at the local pet store, if she was interested in taking a look at him. She did, and it was love at first sight!
From the very beginning he was a special pup.

Angus loved to play.
He loved being with Mommy . . .
and giving Daddy kisses . . .
and he REALLY loved "Tummy Rubs"!
And he couldn't wait to play with his buddies at Camp Bow Wow . . .
Angus and Vinny
He always looked so angelic when he was sleeping.
Angus was a great traveler and enjoyed road trips!
He especially loved road food!
He got very excited whenever we pulled into a drive-thru,
which sometimes caused a problem when
we pulled into a drive-thru bank or pharmacy!

Eating Ice Cream at Braum's (Oklahoma City) |
Enjoying a "Poochie Cone" at Caliche's
(Las Cruces, NM)
Some of his other favorite foods included . . .
Corn on the Cob
Pecorino Romano Cheese
and getting a "Daddy Treat"
(a baby carrot)
He particularly enjoyed Daddy's tomato sauce!
Birthdays were celebrated with great fanfare and with some of his favorite foods.
a homemade hamburger

A Wendy's Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger
(12th birthday)
and for his 14th birthday . . .
a bison burger, cooked carrots and corn on the cob!
Angus also liked having his picture taken.
He also enjoyed Christmas, especially getting to open his own presents . . .
Angus was also a great camper!
and even had his own camping chair . . .
However, while he was a great camper, he was not much of a hiker, and frequently preferred to be carried if the distances covered were going to be very far, especially as he got older.
His first outing when he was only four months old
As he got older, he liked riding in a backpack . . .
and riding on the back of Mommy's trike . . .
He particularly enjoyed riding in his stroller.
Not surprisingly, Angus manifested all of the behavior portrayed in David Shannon's delightful book, Good Boy, Fergus! --as did his parents!
Angus made us a family . . .
He was the Laird of our house.
and of our hearts.
(Angus wearing his
Clan Malcolm tartan kilt)
We miss him dearly and will for many, many years.
Especially each time we hear his song.
Shortly after Angus died, our grandchildren, Olive and Wilder, sent us sympathy cards.
Olive's card has a hamburger on it because, of course, Angus loved hamburgers. She also included a carrot because carrots (a.k.a., "Daddy Treats") were a favorite of Angus' too. He would come running whenever he heard someone call "Daddy Treat!"

Wilder's card shows Angus flying over the meadow at Pop and Nana's place. At the bottom of his card you can see the tips of deer antlers. Whenever Olive and Wilder would visit Pop and Nana, they loved to go out with Pop to the meadow in the early evening to feed the deer.
